A Facebook user from Delhi has claimed that a Facebook representative has knocked on his door to verify if he had written any post with political content. He claimed that the man had carried a company identity with him and asked for his Aadhaar card to verify his credentials for writing a social media post with political content. Facebook has never resorted to such measures of personal verification anywhere during elections. Facebook denied the allegation.
- A Delhi-based user claimed that a Facebook representative landed up at his doorsteps to verify his credentials for writing political content on the platform.
- "He came in civil clothes with a proper Facebook identity. He asked for my Aadhaar card to verify my credentials for writing a mere post on the social networking platform with political content," the user claimed.
- Legal experts have called for stronger action against Facebook for physically verifying a user, which was a violation of privacy and unwarranted under the ambit of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
